About Bhakti Yoga DC
What is Bhakti Yoga?
"Bhakti" is a Sanskrit word expressing a devotional sentiment held in the heart of a person on a spiritual path. It is based on service, compassion and devotion to Divinity. Bhakti transcends race, nationality, politics and all external distinctions. Its philosophy holds the idea that the divine qualities that lie at the very essence of the self can be revived through the experience of meditation, philosophy, and mantra.
What makes Bhakti Yoga DC different from other studios?

Ethan Starkey (he/him)
Business Manager & Instructor
For Ethan, the practice of yoga extends far beyond the physical practice (asana). As a Bhakti Yoga Practitioner, Ethan studies both the spiritual and physical philosophy of yoga, fusing them to create a deeply connected experience. He focuses on building strong foundations within postures, making his classes especially welcoming for beginners and Level 1 students. His teaching style blends creative exploration of yoga’s physicality with its spiritual depth, often using metaphors and poetic cues to help students connect mentally and physically to their practice.
Ethan folds in mantra and chanting at the beginning of his classes, and often plays with elemental flows (Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Ether) that marry the Ayurvedic understanding of the elements with asana practice.
Passionate about making yoga accessible to all, Ethan has been teaching at Bhakti Yoga DC and N Street Village Women’s Shelter since earning his RYT 200 certification in 2022.
His classes will leave students feeling grounded, empowered, and connected to themselves, their community, and the world around them.
